MEL'S PASSION
I just thought I'd dilate a bit on this controversial issue which has gotten some members of the synagogue in a frenzy.
Why it's even a matter of controversy, I don't know. Why some people have their panties all up in a bunch about it is a total mystery to me as well.
I'm only even giving it some of my time cos history is being made and I'd like to look back years from now and see what I thought about the whole thing.
O ye of Jewish faith, Christ came, Christ died, Christ rose.
End of story. Why are some of these tabernacle cronies yapping on like someone's pointed them out in a police lineup or soemthing. The story of Christ's Passion is the foundation of a faith and also holds a huge spot in the history of the world. It
HAPPENED! How do they get anti-Semitism from the retelling of that story? According to report, Mel Gibson had all kinds of consultants on location while filming: Catholic theologist, Jewish rabbis, historians of all faiths...
Nothing is told in the movie that no one already knows, dammit! I think these folks are kicking up a fuss simply because they can. You know how it is. Someone always has to say SOMETHING, even when there's no real reason to.
Now, if the controversy was over how violent it is, then yes, they have a point.
Roger Egbert, acclaimed movie critic, who I'm sure has seen his share of films, says it's the most violent movie he's ever seen. Not one of the most violent, but THE most violent. Oooh, that makes me shudder!
Yet another critic declares that any parent who takes his underage child to see this movie is guilty of child abuse. Period. I was like daaammnn!!
Well, so yeah, needless to say, yours truly will do well to stay out of this one. I have really matured in the past coupla years when it comes to watching graphic stuff. I mean, I watch most horror movies without blinking when others are squirming. I have a thing for OZ, which everyone knows can be plain disturbing. Hell, I watch those Labor and Delivery shows on TLC with no problem at all, but see, ever since I was a kid, Easter movies have always made me cry. You know, movies where JC lives with his people till he is given up and goes thru all the crap and is finally hung on a cross.
Even though I know the story, it still gets me every time I see it, no matter how it is told.
So yeah, I can't see it for two reasons, the graphic nature of the film and how much it's going to affect me.
And that in itself is a little ironic. This is exactly why Mr Gibson, bless his heart, made the movie. To tell the story in all its glory. That the unbelievers will believe. That it will change a lot of hearts. Yeah, so maybe I'll see it when it comes on DVD. That way, I can fast forward through the horror.
Now, to end this. I wonder what Our Lord Himself thinks. Do you think he approves or not? Is he up there like, oh, this is really taking be back or saying, no, no, no, that's not how it went; wherever did these morons get that idea?
I watched a documentary on the movie's production hoping that if I can saw how it was made, maybe I can endure it. (yeah, the special effects were awesome) and you know what, Jim Cavieziel, who has always been able to pull my heart strings with those sadly beautiful eyes of his(FREQUENCY, HIGH CRIMES) is in my opinion, the perfect one to play the part. What with him being 33 years old and initialed as JC.
Maybe Our Lord approves after all.
