MY BIRTHDAY REPORT
yeah, yeah, yeah, so it's been awhile. i know. But see, so much has gone down, or up, whichever way you look at it. I just checked the date of my last blog. Mar 6. wow. anyway, that was Ghana's Independence Day and all I could think about was bitching about the corporate world. Forgive me, Osagyefo. Later that day, I talked to Daddy who asked if we had any independence day celebration plans. Hmph, I said, there aren't enuff Ghanaians in Memphis for that.
How wrong I was. I gotta a phone call later that day telling me about a indy day bash on Sat. I was like well color me wrong.
Went to the bash and had a cool time. We introduced ourselves to each other, all the Ghanaians in Memphis. Was cool.
Thursday b4 my birthday, I went to The Burgh. Oh, it was a homecoming, except that en route to DTW, somehow in bteween MEM and DTW, my throat started closing up. At least that's how it felt. I had on a tank top and a big sweater coat cos there was no way I could have dressed any warmer in the amazing Memphis blistering 72 deg heat in March.
I had a fever and a pounding headache by the time I got to DTW, so went to the rest room and put on my turtleneck and wore my sweater coat too. Too late, I was positively ill touchdown time at Pittsburgh International. Amazingly, after claiming my baggage, I didn't feel the illness anymore. The excitement of being back had pushed away all ill feelings( no pun intended) Got to downtown Pitt, talked to Dee for a minute and then took the 51A home to the Southside.
Nana Akua was there, sick already from the same extreme weather change thing.
Something bizarre. Suddenly the Burgh didn't look so hot. I mean, none of the kezins were around, Nana Akua was asleep and my niece cousin, well, she seemed to be in a diffrent time zone and zip code. And there was a loud mouth skeezer over there, just running her big grill. Oh, what an anti climax. I was exhasted though, so I fell asleep.
Fri morn, Babri shows up from work, and though she goes again, day seem to be promising.
I got to see a talent show by this radio station with Kwaafo and I also met Reuben. Will talk about that later.
Sat, we're sick but we go shopping. Lazarus, Fashion Bug, Rainbow. I went on Fri to pay my bills and send money where needed so all the cheese left was mine to blow.
Pittsbugh is a lovely place. We went to the movies and just generally kicked it. Got my hair braided, so many presents and one birthday card from Mommy. The only one I got.
Wow, I just realized that I just had my happiest birthday in a long, really long time. No drama this time, no tears. Yeah so I was sick, but believe me, I'll take that over anything. I was with family, my illness made them all the more sympathetic and I had a lot of nice presents. Nuthin beats that, considering the pain galores my previous birthdays in this country has been
I had fun. It was great and I took the long needed break. Now I'm back to the grindstone; fine by me. I got Immigration fees to pay so Thank You, God, for this chance to work and earn the money for all that I need.
